Acting out Beatrice (Practice)

--Why did you choose the character that you did?
I chose Beatrice (a.k.a socially awkward nerdy girl) because she was very different from the last character I played ( Brighella) and so I could experience being someone completely different. Also, I really liked the idea I ha for the costume so I wanted to play that role.

--How is that character described (personality, physicality, etc.)?
Previously I described this character as "a very nice girl, who knows almost everything there is to know. She is quiet, and usually quite lonesome. She only has a couple friends, who she sees during her chess club meetings. She is unsure of herself, and her self-esteem is at an all time low." I showed this by hunching slightly, bumping into someone, I tried to look afraid, then I played a bit of chess with a friend of mine.

--What "body part" is their stereotypical feature? How did you attempt to center their energy there?
I didn't really have a "body part" for my character. I just chose a posture, hunched over, and tried to look small, because the character has low self esteem and wants to be kind of invisible. And at the same time is vulnerable.

--How did you choose to interact with environment/prop? What specific interaction choices did you make?
I chose to have a "book" which I dropped when a mean person pushed past me. I would then pull up an audience member to be my friend and play chess with. I would also look at the audience a lot over the top of my book occasionally.

--How did you choose to "take out" to audience in order to "invite them in" to your performance?
As I said before, during the performance, I would look around at the audience, in a way that I thought would seem like I was a bit afraid of them. In the end, I also pulled up an audience member and played imaginary chess with them.

--What feedback did you get from your performance?
My feedback from the performance was that I should exaggerate the contact from the "hit" that makes me drop the book, I should go slower and be more hesitant, the glasses and chess were a good touch, I had good facial expressions and a constant posture.

--What will you change for next performance?
For my next performance I will lurch my shoulder backward and drop the book, to exaggerate it more, and I will also walk even slower, especially after I am hit.

Evaluating another Performance-Amara (Party Girl)

I think Amaras character could be described as a semi-rebel. She said she goes to parties and does illegal things. She chose this because nobody else had done it. Also, it was different from her last character, the witch. She seemed to fit her character very well. She walked around as she might fall over any moment, she interacted a lot with two audience members. There was a clear beginning, middle and end to her story and she fit her character quite well. I noticed that in the beginning, she purposefully messed up her hair, then "woke up" and seemed to be hung over. She had some sort of a drink. I think she led with open hips, staggering forward all the time. For her next performance, she could move a bit slower, to show that she is not completely in control of herself, and is a little confused as to what is happening.
